The future of WWE Films relies heavily on their next feature The Condemned which is released at the end of next month. Cinema Blend have got the scoop on three new posters for the movie, the best being on the left but you can click here to see the others.
The Condemned is the third movie solely financed by the subsidiary of World Wrestling Entertainment after See No Evil (starring Kane) and The Marine (starring John Cena) in the last year. Both movies flopped at the box office, but did prove to be steady hits on dvd and eventually they both returned a very minor profit.
The Condemned stars their popular star Stone Cold Steve Austin alongside Vinnie Jones in a Battle Royale rip off where ten convicted criminals are signed up to be filmed for a T.V. show battle to the death on a remote island. The sole survivor of the show… wins his/her freedom.
We posted the trailer a while back and it looked HIDEOUS.
The company were extremely disappointed that The Marine didn’t hit it big as John Cena is their biggest star right now and that was the movie they were banking on. However with the added popularity of wrestling at this time of year with Wrestlemania just around the corner, they think The Condemned could prove to be successful.
If it’s not and it does the same numbers as the last two…. then I can’t see the company ever releasing a movie into theatres ever again. It will be straight to dvd from their on in, which has proven to be a mighty successful avenue for them in the past.
