The Brave One tracking $15 million opening

brave_one.jpgJodie Foster’s The Brave One which to me just looked like a slightly better acted female version of Kevin Bacon’s Death Sentence has opened to a $5 million taking on Friday, which should equal to $15 million by the weekend’s end. This is the lowest opening for a Jodie Foster led big budget movie since Anna and the King in 1999.

Crime/thriller’s have been somewhat of a hard sell in 2007.

Superb word of mouth is keep 3:10 to Yuma chugging along, with a very decent $2.7 million taking on Friday, which should result in another $9 million to it’s total by Monday.

Mr. Woodcock looks to be third for the weekend. The Billy Bob Thornton/Seann William Scott/Susan Sarandon low-brow comedy opened to $2.6 million which should see it fall just behind Yuma by Monday. A very poor opening but one that seems just from it’s bad trailer.

David Cronenberg’s thriller Eastern Promises opened at only 15 locations but made an impressive $165,000 which should win out the PTA limited releases with a $10,971 average so far. Across the Universe which I really can’t wait to see, is just behind it with a $9,114 average.

The other Oscar hopeful In the Valley of Elah and remember Paul Haggis’ first movie since the Academy Award winning Crash, opened to less than a $5,000 average in comparison.

CHECK BACK ON MONDAY MORNING FOR FULL BOX OFFICE REPORT
