Superbad heading towards a $30 millon opening

14.jpgSuperbad is performing way better than I expected this weekend and just like Knocked Up, the small comedy flick is on it’s way to a $30 million opening. The movie took home $11 million on it’s opening day of release and is yet another hit for Apatow and Rogen (who produced and wrote this flick respectively).

Likewise, my prediction of another first place for Rush Hour 3 seems way off, as the movie took home only $6.3 million on Friday which estimates at around $18.5 million, a huge 60% drop from it’s opening weekend. If it continues to drop at this rate, Rush Hour 3 will end up being a big failure.

The Bourne Ultimatum took home $5.2 million on Friday and should end up in third place with just over $15 million.

And the Daniel Craig/Nicole Kidman sci-fi remake of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers has bombed far worse than I predicted. A paltry $2 million opening on Friday could result in less than a $6 million opening. An absolute disaster of epic proportions and someone should be fired for that one, and I don’t mean Hirschbiegel. That’s already happened!

The same goes with The Last Legion which couldn’t even make it to the $1 million mark on Friday as it opened to $800,000.

CHECK BACK TOMORROW MORNING FOR FULL ROUND-UP OF THE WEEKEND’S BOX OFFICE.
