At Thursday afternoon’s press conference, Sundance founder and Hollywood legend Robert Redford gave an eloquent introduction to this year’s festival, touching upon everything from its 25 year history, to distribution woes for indie flicks, to the present economic, political, and environmental concerns and their effect on the film industry. When asked whether he minded the fact that Obama’s inauguration will coincide with day 6 of the festival, Redford made no bones that he is a big proponent of “out with the old in with the new” and seemed optimistic for the future of both the American film industry and society at large.
