After the success of THE DARK KNIGHT‘s record breaking screenings in IMAX for Warner Bros this summer ($55 million plus), rival studio Paramount Pictures are getting in on the act by showcasing next May’s STAR TREK in the same format.
Now unlike that incredible opening sequence from Christopher Nolan’s movie, not a single frame of TREK has been shot with IMAX camera technology however it will be converted to 70mm for projection on IMAX screens.
Also planned for the same IMAX up-scale projection next year are NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2: BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN, TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN and HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE.
Though it must be said, TRANSFORMERS has shot some scenes with the IMAX camera’s and HARRY POTTER will apparently have 20 minutes of extra bonus material for these showings.
Meanwhile, William Shatner has given his blessing to the design of the new Enterprise. Some speculate this might be because Abrams’ relented and gave him a cameo in the movie after all…
