Sylvester Stallone is making his first original, non-franchised movie since the little seen thriller AVENGING ANGELO in 2002.
Variety say the actor will star and direct THE EXPENDABLES, a action thriller that follows a team of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator.
Stallone also wrote the screenplay which has THE ONE & WAR duo Jason Statham attached and Jet Li in final talks. The movie is being made at Nu Image, the studio behind his last film RAMBO.
Could this be his answer to Quentin’s snub for INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS? Is Stallone going to find more action A-listers to fill his cast and go balls-to-the-wall with a no holds barred RAMBO-esque violent frenzy!
Filming will begin in February in Costa Rica and Louisiana.

I’ll say one thing, Stallone is a better directed than 80% of all hacks working in the business today. While he’s not a kid anymore in front of the camera he has a lot to give behind it. Im looking forward to this and everything he does!

I, for one, am actually excited on this news. Stallone actually does make pretty good movies, when he directs, compared to many of the hacks we get today.
Of course, this sounds like another RAMBO movie, but the premise sounds good. All I’m wondering is, who is Jet Li playing? That gets me really intrigued. One of the bad guys? hm?
JAson Statham is run of the mill action star fluff now. He’s usualy pretty good in the roles he gets chosen for, but they’re all the same action star role. IT gets old. I want to see Jason Statham sport some actual hair. At least that would add some flair to his role.
This project does sound interesting though, and i wish stallone the best of luck while directing.
