Spidey 3 spoilers… Venom’s origin revealed

venom-big_2_.jpgDark Horizons have got the scoop on some very interesting quotes from Tobey Maguire regarding the symbiote origins, which outright dismisses the previous rumour that they were going to use the cliched “created in the lab” storyline for Spider-Man 3

These quotes indicate that they are going to stick close to the storyline from the animated tv show…

“…it comes from this goo that comes from outer space, so first the goo comes and gets hold of me.”

In the tv show it was the astronaut John Jameson (the son of the editor of the Daily Bugle and who later becomes Man-Wolf) who brought the alien symbiote back to the Earth from one of his missions in Space.

Sam Raimi has already stated that Man-Wolf won’t be making an appearance in Spidey 3, as we have enough villains already but I love how all of them (like The Lizard and Bruce Campbell as Mysterio) have been subtly placed into each movie. I love continuity like this in comic book movies, it helps create the feel of the universe that is present in the comics.

Potentially this is a bigger spoiler alert, and it concerns character deaths (you have been warned)….

“I’m sure they’ll keep making Spider-Man pictures. Amy [Pascal, Sony cochairman] told me that she would. I love ‘Spider-Man.’ And I love working with Kirsten, Tobey, James. I don’t know if Thomas and Topher will be around in the next one, but probably Bryce will be”.

It’s that last quote there that is the most interesting. Bryce Dallas Howard (although I still think it’ll be Mary Jane) has heavily been touted as biting the dust in Spider-Man 3, but Maguire’s hint that she will “probably” return indicates otherwise.

Do we take Maguire’s comments seriously or are they just throwing us another curveball?

Remember Sam Raimi said for a long time that he would “never use Venom” but here we are only 5 months away from seeing one of the most popular villains in the Spidey universe on screen.
