I am not ashamed to admit that I am a fan of the first SPEED film. It’s awful sequel aside (that ditched the main character for God’s sake!), I thought the film was a lot of fun and still holds a lot of re-watch value for a genre that produced a lot of lame movies in the 90’s.
And since they made a sequel sans the main character, it seemed like any chance of there being another entry into the series would have delve into the remake or reboot realm. Or so you would think.

Very unsubtansitated rumors suggest that there’s a script for a SPEED 3 making the move around Hollywood and it appears it’s a straight sequel and NOT a remake. AICN gives us the news after a “contact” sent them the following message:
There’s a scriptment floating around that reintroduces Jack Traven. So the studios are hoping to get Keanu back on board.
I have to say, it does inspire more confidence than it otherwise would with the news they’re trying to get Keanu Reeves back. Not that the main strength of the original was Reeves and his ever Oscar worthy acting ability (note sarcasm) but in the right role, as he was in SPEED, he’s effective enough. I would certainly be more interested in seeing one with Reeves than without him, wouldn’t you?
Isn’t SPEED 2: CRUISE CONTROL proof of at least that?

Speed 2 plays better on repeat viewings simply as a pure time killer. What really hurts that film is Sandra Bullock. She was so good in the original Speed, but totally annoying in Speed 2. Jason Patrick actually made for a really good action hero.
I would be very surprised to see Keanu back for a 3rd.
