Cinematical have got themselves a great scoop today.
They say that they have exclusively heard that stunning 29 year old actress Shannyn Sossamon from One Missed Call, The Holiday and The Rules of Attraction has auditioned for the part of Wonder Woman in the Justice League of America movie and has blown the writing team away.
Kieran and Michele Mulrooney thought she was so right for the part that they called her back and things started progressing until director George Miller stated that he was less than impressed by her performance and didn’t think she was right for the part.
This apparently caused something of a stalemate between the writers and Miller and we all know who is going to win that battle. Infact you could say it has already been won by Miller as this casting audition was said to haven taken place sometime before last week’s ‘high school drop-out’ casting calls.
I can’t say I know too much about Sossamon, but I do remember her in The Rules of Attraction and she has a very watchable and seductive acting style. She looks pretty good for the role but I dunno, there’s so many other actresses’ out there (Eliza Dushku is my choice for anyone wondering) who have more experience for this kind of role.
Cinematical also point out another thing I’ve been wondering about for a while. Something tells me this movie might not be JLA or Justice League of America, due to the “America” part of the title. Remember these movies do well in so many over-sea’s places, that they are likely to change the title to just JUSTICE LEAGUE as not everyone around the world are pleased with America and their politics.
Yesterday was said to be the last day for anyone who hadn’t auditioned previously to impress the crew behind this film. Now Miller, the writers and the producers will be sitting around with literally a 100 photographs deciding on who they want.
Wonder who they cast… and why is it always Wonder Woman/Green Lantern/The Flash that we hear about. Have they known their Batman and Superman all along?

She certainly looks the part, though I’ve never seen her anything. Helena Bonham Carter could probably do it too. Hell of a lot of folks to choose from.
So why is George miller determined not to choose any of them? I think he’s been out of the movie business too long. At this point he’s a not a war horse being brought out for one last ride. He’s just an old fool they brought in hoping vainly he might be able to handle a project this big.
When I see the writers showing better judgment than the director that’s three red flags for me.
You serious about Carter, she’s 42?
OMG! SHANNON SOSSAMON would make the perfect Wonder Woman. I remember her from Rules of Attraction and thought then that she would be a huge starlet for a while. And just as she slipped out of pop-culture consciousness here she is auditioning for Wonder Woman. That’s great. She’s strong-looking and sexy as hell. She needs to be and older presence in the film (as ‘wise as Athena’) and I sincerely hope she gets the role.
Wow. That would certainly be an ‘indy’ wonder woman. No complaints from me! Except of course, this movie is going to suck so it’s probably best that Sossamon isn’t involved. She really doesn’t need another bad film under her belt.
Well, Matt I also think Sandra Bullock would be great as well, and she’s over 40.
Hell, I thought Angela Bassett would have made a better Storm than Halle Berry, and Bassett was over 50 years old in 2000.
I’m truly forgiving about age, as long as phyically they’re still convincing. To me it truly isn’t the mileage, it’s whether they look it. Sanda/Helena don’t look their ages.
Harrison Ford looks WAY past 61.
I saw her at comic-con. She came off as a real elitist actress. She looked like the last place she wanted to be was in a room full of comic-cook fans. So this certainly surprises me.
I would not choose Sossoman for Wonderwoman by a longshot. She doesn’t look healthy or athletic enough to handle the physical requirements and the licks you have to endure. Although Wonderwoman is typically a brunette, she has an all-American look, Linda Carter-homage. But Sossoman looks too ethnic and dark to fit my impression of Wonder Woman should be.
I would love to see a ‘Wonder Woman’ movie. As a kid, I grew up watching Lynda Carter. (I even have an autographed picture of her.) I’m an aspiring screenwriter myself, and I would actually like to be part of the writing team so that I could give the project my imput. I have no particular choice for the part of Wonder Woman, but I would prefer that Hollywood introduce an unknown actress to the world. I also think it would be best if the story took place circa 1940s during World War II. Having a contemporary movie would make it too dependent on computer animation. I don’t mind using the latest technology when Wonder Woman flies her invisible jet, but the movie should have a grittier, dirtier feel to it. I’m not saying it should look like ’Saving Private Ryan’ necessarily, but having too much automation will make it look artificial like so many other movies based on comic books. And Nazis should be the antagonists since they were truly the worst criminals of all time. I can also give my opinion on dialogue, plot, and even an updated costume for Wonder Woman if I may be so bold. I would like to know your opinion on these matters. Thanks.
