The long anticipated (yeah right!) Sex and the City movie will open on our screens on May 30th 2008 according to MTV. The movie is set to begin filming any week now and although plot details are still under-wraps, it’s understood the movie will have the same four year gap for characters as the one that’s occurred in real life since the show ended.
This May 30th release date will put the movie up against the Judd Apatow comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall starring Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Paul Rudd and Kristen Bell about a guy who takes a vacation to Hawaii to get over his break-up with his T.V. star girlfriend, only to find that girlfriend has also gone to the Island with her new muse.
The other movie it will be going directly up against is Starship Dave, the Eddie Murphy comedy about a crew of miniature aliens that operate a spaceship that has a human form that causes problems when it fall in love with human Elizabeth Banks.
So three comedy movies (Sex and the City is kinda a comedy right?) opening on that last weekend in May. Sex and the City should be extremely wary of the Judd Apatow produced comedy. We’ve just seen the popularity of both Knocked Up and Superbad this year, and it will be going for the same age range audience which could leave couples bitching over what to see.
It may almost be like the battle of the sexes. Will the man win and it’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall that tops the Box Office or will the women get their way and top with Sex and the City?
