Schreiber is not Stryker, he’s Victor Creed?

Just when you thought those dummies involved with the production of the Wolverine prequel had done something right, this kind of news leaks.

CHUD carry the rumor from a 100% trusted source that Liev Schreiber has not been cast as Stryker in the shitty titled X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE as previously thought but instead it will indeed be t.v. actor Michael C. Hall (Dexter, Six Feet Under) who will be playing Logan’s arch nemesis.

Here’s the thing though, Schreiber is still on board… it’s just he will be playing the Victor Creed (a.k.a. Sabertooth) role. What the hell is that all about? A respected and proper actor playing the muscle man part that a wrestler portrayed in the original X-MEN movie?

Victor Creed

Schreiber is quite tall and psychically impressive I guess but Sabertooth is suppose to be a frikkin’ beast of a man, only existing because he can go toe-to-toe with Wolverine for so great visual epic battles. He’s not a character with depth, shall we say.

Hopefully with the dramatic helmer Gavin Hood (RENDITION, TSOTSI) on board, his take on the Victor Creed character is more cerebral and a more intelligent depiction of the character than before otherwise this is one massive mis-casting.

CHUD have also heard that Michelle Monaghan (MISSION IMPOSSIBLE III) tops the list of actresses’ that Fox have on their wanted list for the role of Silverfox. Previously he heard that Maggie Q had been offered the role.

Silver Fox

Michael C. Hall as Stryker is as interesting to me as Julian McMahon as Doctor Doom, Schreiber is a personal favourite of mine but as Creed (WTF!) and Michelle Monaghan is a great actress who’s had a nice run of performances recently but this role is not suited to her and if anything it’s beneath her talents.

More madness from a franchise which seems to have completely lost it’s direction. The prequel is set to open May 19th 2009, with Hugh Jackman returning to the lead role.

  1. Watch the show Dexter and you will acquire a new respect for Michael C. Hall.

  2. or just do yourself a huge favor and get the complete series of ’six feet under’ (the best television show ever, in my opinion. michael c. hall has series chops, and i, for one, am very excited to see him make a leap to the big screen.

  3. Michale Hall’s not a bad choice. And Victor Creed may not neccessarily be “Sabretooth” in this movie. He and Logan used to be special forces partners back when they were friends. If that’s the angle they play then this could be both original and interesting.

Don’t know how I feel about Michelle Monaghan.

  4. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, This film will be Shite! It’s got disaster written all over it.
They should have just went ahead and done another X-Men film in stead of this crap.
X-3 wasn’t that bad of a film, could have been a lot better but still watchable.

  5. Michael C Hall could be a great young Stryker. He has the smarm and the menace. Dexter proves that.

Sabretooth has only ever been a 2-dimensional villain when 2-bit comic book writers write him like that. Like Wolverine/Logan he has an animalistic deviousness. Respect to the wrestler, I mean actor who played Creed in the first movie but the role was terribly written. Read some decent Wolverine and/or X-Men stories and Sabretooth was a formidable foe not some gaint meathead with a healing factor and sharp claws.

Given the right dress and attitude Schreiber could be good.

Overall, though, I haven’t much hope for this project. I don’t think Jackman understands the character of Logan as much as he professes he does, and he’s supposed to be fairly influential in this movie’s production.

    We’ll see.
