Variety say Julie Benz (Rambo, Punisher 2) will topline this year’s obligatory Saw movie (they are up to five now, by the way) for debut director David Hackl, who worked on the previous three movies as a production designer.
The script comes from the writers of Saw IV and for the first time since the original Saw, Darren Lynn Bousmann had nothing to do with this picture.
Production began March 17th and the film of course will be in cinema’s this Halloween.
The last Saw I viewed in the cinema was Saw II… after that it became obvious that I was just going to be paying for the same movie year in and year out. I’ve hated the rest which I have caught up with on DVD, I doubt this one will be any different.

Damn, she struck me as a real cool actress in Dexter (one of the best series ever), why does she have to play in shitty movies like that.
I mean despite the first one the Saw Franchise isn’t any good at all, the characters are dumb and Jigsaw IMHO isn’t anywhere near other Horror Icons like Jason, Freddy or Leatherface.
especially now that jigsaw is dead…i hate the flashbacks, it’s not nearly as thrilling when he’s not around anymore.
i can’t see how the saw movies can live on unless they fill the role with a new killer that can carry the franchise. so alot of people are going to be turned off now that jigsaw is dead and his games are living through his tapes and post-humous plans. it’s gonna get lame after a while.
Honestly..i gave up after Saw 2.
It seems that they have a new Saw every week. Who gives a crap about the Saw’s anyway? I really want to know.
Julie Benz as Samus Aran in a Metroid movie! Would be perfect casting.
She has great range, check out her fragile character of Rita in the Dexter series, and then watch her work as the evil and conniving vampire Darla in the Angel series.
I’m so bored of the Saw series, but at least there’s a reason to at least check out the 5th one now.
…so it begins, the annual “let’s bitch about the new Saw movie”. Get it out of your system guys. They will be making a new one of these every single year until they start losing money. If you don’t want to watch them – don’t! They’re less likely to make the next one if you don’t pay to see this one.
It’s not like they’re pretending they’re something they’re not, so if you didn’t like the last 3 stop bitching and talk about something where you opinion might matter.
@ PaulT ; since when can people not bitch about something they dont like? Yes, they are not pretending to be something else, but does that mean i dont have the right to say i dislike the series?
@Ruud,
You have the right to your opinion, but there’s never going to be anything achieved by it. If you didn’t like Saw 2, 3 or 4, you’re not going to like Saw 5. That’s OK, these movies certainly aren’t for everyone.
However, it’s been firmly established that this series will continue, one movie per year, until they start losing money. This isn’t a new thing – there were only 9 years between Friday the 13th parts 1 and 8 for example – but I’m a little tired of the “*rolls eyes* not another one” kind of comments. Don’t like them? Don’t watch them. There are plenty of alternatives, even if you only consider the R-rated horror genre.
The cycle is firmly established, as is the content of each successive entry. If you don’t like them, feel free to ignore them and watch something else rather than bitching about them. I think the Meet The Spartans kind of spoofs are horrible and I wish they’d stop getting made. But, I don’t bitch about them, I just ignore them.
