Saw IV is going to rule the box office this Halloween. Everyone knows it. Indeed, everyone knows it so much that Saw’s horror movie competitors are fleeing the month with their tale between their legs.
Trick ‘r Treat, the fun sounding “Halloween themed” horror movie from director Michael Dougherty has seen it’s release date of October 5th, change to an undetermined release date next year… believed to be sometime in January or February.
Four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband.
So the only movie left unwilling to move away from the Saw franchise looks to be 30 Days of Night which at the moment has a U.S. release date of 19th October.

I agree that productions are trying to put some distance between themselves and SAW, which is a GREAT franchise, BTW. It’s smart horror-fiction, with #3 being the most human of the series, and 2 the most narratively bold -I mean, you expect them to do the usual, “Watch as Everyone Gets Killed By The Trap Meant Specifically For Them!” and instead they go in another direction altogether. Say what you want, but SAw is uber-popular and respected for a reason.
Though I don’t think anyone should be rescheduling overly much. Give SAW a ten-day berth and you should be safe.
Great, so now we have two Halloween themed movies come out in the next year. One in August and one in January. That makes sense.
