SAW gets a spin-off, FATAL ATTRACTION style

saw 4Although Twisted Pictures are making it sound like a brand new and original idea, the truth is a movie they are developing titled Kept is basically an unofficial spin-off from their Saw series with a bit of Fatal Attraction thrown in for good measure.

All you have to do is replace Jigsaw with a stunning blonde femme fatale and change the motive from those who don’t appreciate life to those who cheat on their wives and jackpot… the Saw producers have a new franchise.

Producer Mark Burg tells Shock Till You Drop the details…

“It’s about a man who misses his plane and gets stuck in town and stays overnight. He goes to the hotel bar and sees a woman there. They start looking at each other, he sends her a drink, they start flirting. As he’s walking over to her, we see him take his wedding band off and he puts it in his pocket. He ends up back at her apartment. She goes into the kitchen and pours two drinks, putting something in his. She then gets undressed and heads into the shower.”

“Cut to, he wakes up and he’s strapped to a bed,” Burg continues. “This woman walks into the room and says to him, ‘You never even asked me my name. You don’t even know it. You have a wife at home, maybe some kids.’ He tries to tell her he’s not married but, of course, there’s the indication he had a wedding band on his finger. The story takes off from there.”

The movie is apparently ready to go and should begin filming next year.

By the sounds of it, there is only one victim, so it will be interesting to see if they can stretch his torture out for the whole course of the film.

No doubt if you like the Saw series, then this will be one for you. I guess it would have been a pretty brave decision if they were to go with this as an actual Saw spin-off but that slight change of direction and character might have been too much for some.

Doomed to die aborning. This kind of kink won’t appeal to female movie goers, except for the irrational man-hating sect, and even then they’ll only want to see it if there’s some guy they can drag along and watch squirm at how much she enjoys it –most broads like that don’t have boyfriends, only parole officers.

It won’t appeal to men because Fatal Attraction is one thing, but a movie solely based on a man at the mercy of some oversexed, hyperviolent female is emasculating and most men won’t care to experience that. Can you blame them?

The torture-porn genre is a very delicate category. SAW so far has done a great job of making low-budget, high-grossing fare, but as Hostel 2 showed it’s way too easy to go too far with it. Too easy to convince yourself that any idea involving gratutitous violence and sex is a sure-fire winner because the others have made so much money so easily. When in truth torture-porn is the single hardest genre to gather an audience for.

I don’t hope to see any movie do badly, and don’t want to see this one fail, but this sounds like Turistas all over again. It would take a HELL of a plot to make this one appeal to men, which are at least two-thirds of the audience the producers are shooting for.

I can tell you, as the writer of the original short novel that “Kept” is based on, that the concept is original and exciting and not at all as its being depicted in these posts. Giving a bare bones description with only a very slight knowledge of the plot is irresponsible. You’re welcome to drop by my site for more information on the movie and my bizarre body of work.
Believe me, “Kept” will blow your mind–and so will my writing.
