Samuel L. Jackson going Octo on The Spirit’s ass!

globes.jpgFrank Miller’s first solo venture into movie making may have found it’s first star. Samuel L. Jackson is in talks for Miller’s adaptation of the comic book series The Spirit according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jackson would play the Spirit’s nemesis, the Octopus, a meek lab assistant who reinvents himself as a psychotic nightmare that kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face. The Octopus’ tentacles reach into every aspect of crime in fictitious Central City, a city he plans to wipe out.

Awesome. The Spirit is a comic series that I’m not at all familiar with but this villain sounds cool. Apparently you never see his face in the comics but you could tell who it was by his distinct gloves, which will likely become a gimmick they will want to use in the movie.

Jackson made a superb comic book villain in Unbreakable and it’s nice to see this type of movie role again from an actor who has done a tremendous amount of crap over the last couple of years.

Miller’s next job is to find a lead actor who is capable of playing The Spirit and someone who can match up to the mighty Sam on the big screen.

  1. Lead actor capable of playing The Spirit - - - duh! Gerard Butler, of course - but he’s one busy guy now.

  2. Yes just a little, lol.

Butler as The Spirit would have been very interesting though.
