Cohen/Ferrell in a comedy version of SHERLOCK HOLMES

Columbia Pictures are to rival the completely serious Warner Bros/Guy Ritchie adaptation of super sleuth Sherlock Holmes with an outrageous comedy that will star Sacha Baron Cohen as Holmes and Will Ferrell as his sidekick Watson.

Just like Cohen and Ferrell’s last pairing Talladega Nights, this is another Judd Apatow production and it is being scribed right now by Etan Cohen (Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder) but no director is attached as of yet.

“Just the idea of Sacha and Will as Sherlock Holmes and Watson makes us laugh,” said Col co-prexy Matt Tolmach. “Sacha and Will are two of the funniest and most talented guys on the planet, and having them take on these two iconic characters is frankly hilarious.”

More PINK PANTHER and STARSKY AND HUTCH than the kind of Sherlock Holmes movie we really want to see.

Hopefully this won’t scare Warner Bros. to either rush or scrap their version of the character altogether because that really would be a travesty. Give me straight material of this iconic character, not two loons goofing around for a paycheck.

Who for Moriarty then… Adam Sandler?
