russellcrowe_narrowweb__300×4420.jpgCan you imagine being an actor working for director Russell Crowe… with his short temper!

Variety are reporting that Crowe will make his directorial debut in a fact-based drama about a counter-culture movement in the surfing community in his homeland of Australia.

The movie titled Bra Boys, will be adapted from a documentary that focused on three surfers who began the underground movement in the inner-Sydney seaside suburb of Marouba. The documentary looked specifically at their social triumphs and stuggles, with Russell Crowe acting as the narrator.

Collateral screenwriter Stuart Beattie will write the script, with Brian Grazer producing. There is no word as of yet as to whether Crowe will also star in his film. The trailer for the documentary is below…..

I guess it’s a pretty small movie for Crowe to test his skills at directing and probably an experiment to see if he enjoys doing it. Having just watched the trailer, it actually does seem far more interesting than you would expect from just reading the documentary’s plot. It could make a nice feature.

If you live in Australia, you can see the Bra Boys documentary in theatres now but good luck trying to watch it anywhere else in the world…. at least in the near future anyway.

source – coming soon, variety
