Routh keen to work with Bale for Justice League movie

Brandon RouthA script for a Justice League of America movie has now been turned in to Warner Brothers and truth be told, it looks like the film might be actually be happening sometime down the road.

It certainly won’t be happening before The Dark Knight and Superman: The Man of Steel (which is set to begin prepping early 2008 after Bryan Singer finishes work on Valkyrie) are released but after that the possibility is certainly there.

Superman himself, Brandon Routh has spoken to IESB about the JLA movie, and he reveals that he knows about the script being turned in and although he hasn’t read it, the idea of the movie appeals to him and he is keen to work with Christian Bale.

Warner Brothers have to be really cautious here and there’s so many different factors involved in this. We know that Christopher Nolan has a Batman trilogy in mind which will likely finish up with the last film in 2010 or 2011, so he won’t want anyone else to use his Batman character up until then.

So if they were to go ahead with a JLA movie before 2011, it would have to be either using the character of Batman under the direction of another director and likely against the wishes of Nolan (as it may and probably would effect his franchise) or do a JLA movie that doesn’t involve the Batman character which will likely hurt the potential revenue of such a movie.

Also you have to consider whether Christian Bale would want to do a team-up JLA film which will be far less dark and serious than his Batman movies with Nolan.

Personally, any sort of Batman and Superman team-up is a sure fire way to kill both franchises together in one go. I’m not saying it couldn’t work because I truly believe a team-up movie could work as it does in SOME (but surely not all) comic tales but it would have to be with a clearly defined agenda and in a storyline that’s clever and makes sense.

Otherwise you could kill two huge money making revenues in one go and that’s not good after it’s taken so long to get Batman and Superman back on our screens.

Im sure Brandon Routh wouldn’t mind, I mean it’s not like he’s being swamped with offers of work. That being said I don’t see Christian Bale agreeing to this unless it was much down the road and after completing Nolans trilogy. I should say though that in my opinion they should leave out Batman all together. I seriously doubt his absence would affect box office revenue, Superman should be in it along with the others because he is the flagship character of DC. WB are going to have a real problem launching this movie and actually doing it justice. Unlike Marvel’s Avengers, all the justice league are iconic top tier in some form or another with their own set of fans, pleasing them won’t be easy. I say to not overcomplicate things the line up should be Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter AND THATS IT!! keep it character driven by giving each some sort of story arc and success should follow.

I realised I made a pun, sorry.

It’s certainly easier for Marvel to do a movie that works but I agree Batman shouldn’t be in JLA movie.

Personally, I think he is out of place in the comic version of the group too and I don’t think it’s ever made sense for Batman to work in a team.

He is a loner and it should stay like that, which means NO ROBIN and no JLA with him.

I kinda dig the idea of Batman 4 being a Batman movie with Superman making an appearance. If done like The Dark Knight Returns, that movie could be huge.

I’m not surprised that Routh is down for a JLA picture, but I seriously doubt Bale would have any interest in appearing. I think the appeal for him working on Begins and it’s sequels was purely due to Nolan’s take on the material. I’m sure Warners will probably include Bats, but I think he won’t have anything to do with the Nolan series. That said, if this picture gets off the ground, I can’t really imagine Warners finding a take on the JLA that would be anything less than a disaster.

I have to speak heresy in the temple gentlemen. I can’t see this movie getting made without Batman. When I think Justice League…okay, I don’t, I never read the comic, but I used to love SuperFriends on TV when I was growing up during the 80’s. And that was: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Latern. Five characters, all different, and all vital to a JLA movie. This does however call into question the fate of the much ballyhooed Wonder Woman movie, doesn’t it? And I don’t think Nolan would go ballistic if WB wants Batman before he finishes his trilogy (WB has the rights, after all, not Nolan, so he can’t do anything about it anyway) or, even if they wanted Chritian Bale to play the part, which I only recommned he do if the script is really, really good. Nolan’s got a track record for quality work, and if The Dark Knight equals or surpasses Batman Begins then nobody will want to see Bale or Batman in a flick of lesser quality. So I say WB should go for it! Bale, Batman in a JLA movie! And screw Nolan if he doesn’t like it. It’s not his call.
If anyone should be dumped, it’s Routh. The guy ISN’T Superman. Nryan Singer has an amazing abillity for choosing the worst actors for key roles.

I think that batman & superman should be part of the jla movie because moviegoers won’t like the idea of one of their favorite heroes is out of the pictures is like no justice league because the justice league member are Martian the Manhunter, Batman, Wonderwoman, Superman, Greenlantern, Flash.  SO WB should work on getting those two actors in the picture.  Or the whole movie will go Kaboom!

First of all i have to say a Justice League film is possible that no-one can deny. I know all about people sayin Christopher Nolan’s batman is off limits for such a big film. But keep in mind that Nolan seems only interested in makin a trilogy and even he can only go so far in his franchise. most franchises water down after the third film anyways. And who better to lead the league other than Brandon Routh. Id think it would be a great idea if Warner Bros. got Bruce W. Timm, creator from the Justice League Unlimited animated series involved with the film. Brandon Routh would probly say yes to be in the film, but as for Christian Bale who knows. he may ask for a higher paycheck. I just hate the thought of having young unknown people portray such heroic icons that would make a Justice League film look like Teen Titans film. I heard of Ryan Gosling maybe playn Green Lantern hal jordan, you got to me kidding me. good actor yes, but he doesnt look like a Green Lantern, more like a teen titan. that was as funny to me as Leonardo Dicaprio playin Captain America, lol. Anyways i hope Warner Bros. be wise on their decision on who they cast and take notes of what Marvel is accomplishing so far.

One Trackback

  1. [...] Brandon Routh as recently as last week told us that he expects prep work to begin on Superman: The Man of Steel early next year, for a release in June 2009. This would all seem to make sense as director Bryan Singer is busy at work with shooting Valkyrie and fighting off the German Defense Ministry who believed Tom Cruise was evil! [...]
