Roland Emmerich and 20th Century Fox are relying on google and the whole Mayan conspiracy of “the end of the world” in 2012 to promote their latest disaster movie. Probably a wise decision actually because it really is marketing they couldn’t buy.
A very early and brief teaser trailer has been released online today for next July’s epic…
Looks like the usual Roland Emmerich fare but will it carry the light-hearted B-movie esque feel of STARGATE and INDEPENDENCE DAY or will it take itself way too serious and end up being a silly movie like 10,000 B.C. and THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW.
John Cusack, Thandie Newton, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Woody Harrelson and Oliver Platt star.

I’ll tell ya … Emmerich really knows how to put a shot together that will cause the masses to collectively shit their pants. If only he knew how to do the rest of the film …
The Day After Tomorrow was a decent movie I thought.
But yeah, 10,000BC was utter shit.
I really believe that Independence Day is one of the great popcorn movies of all time. I liked The Day after Tommorow but it had problems. Terrific first half followed mediore second half. It appears that these epic disaster films have much more mass appeal than the self contained ones like Poseidon. I must admit I love the genre as my all time favorite film is The Poseidon Adventure. Im still hoping for a extended cut of Poseidon as the severe editing that film underwent is quite stunning. I can only hope that 2012 is a great film.
