Veteran director Robert Altman passed away yesterday aged 81. He is often cited as being one of the great influences in Hollywood over the years with his unique vision and naturalistic directing style.
Altman was recognized for his achievement in film at this year’s Oscars, where he won an honorary Oscar after missing out on winning the statue on five nominated occasions.
I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’t seen many of Altman’s films which include MASH, The Long Goodbye and Short Cuts but I have seen Gosford Park which in all honesty I wasn’t to keen on. I do admit though to watching his 1980 movie Popeye far too many times when I was younger, a guilty pleasure of mine in my childhood.
