The rather strange comedy that Ricky Gervais will be co-directing as his first feature film This Side of the Truth has found it’s lead star…. Ricky Gervais!

Yes, it seems he decided he was the best man for the job of bringing the tale of a contemporary world where no-one lies to the big screen. That is until a performer decides to invent it and he finds it works for his own personal gain…

“My character works in the film industry, where actors are really readers who tell completely factual stories,” Gervais said. “My character’s a loser who’s about to lose his job, and who’s lumbering through the 1300s. All he’s got to work with is the Black Death. But once he lies and pretends he’s found lost stories, he becomes the greatest storyteller in the world.”

The project which is being setup at Media Rights Capital will shoot in the Spring.

Plot sounds like a dumb one to me and one that doesn’t sound as if it will go anyway but Gervais is a smart and funny guy, I’m not worried about it at all. He’s got a couple of movie happenings on the horizon and it’s nice to see him dabble with the big screen for a while after a couple of years claiming he wasn’t interested in film.

The actor should soon begin filming his first ever lead role in a movie with David Koepp’s comedy Ghost Town any week now.
