Richard Jeni commits suicide

It’s always sad when a person you have watched and admired on screen dies, particularly so when they are believed to have taken their own life.

My only memory of Richard Jeni was from the 1994 movie The Mask, where he played Jim Carrey’s best friend and fellow co-worker in a truly hilarious performance. Those guys had fantastic chemistry, and the scene where they are drooling over Cameron Diaz is played so well by them both….. your sat there thinking “Yes, my mouth would be like that too if Cameron Diaz just walked in”.

Astonishingly, that is pretty much his only film role.

Jeni was famous for being a regular stand up comedian, regularly appearing on things like The Tonight Show and touring his act all around the U.S. and appearing in HBO comedy specials.

Jeni was found dead by his girlfriend at his home from what is believed to be a “self inflicted gun shot” aged 49. Our thoughts here at OWF are with Jeni’s family.
