Brett Ratner is producing a remake of the 1980’s Grindhouse-esque horror film Mother’s Day for the big screen with Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw III, IV) in early talks to direct.
P2 writer Franck Khalfoun is scribing the remake.
The original, almost exploitational movie featured three women who get together for a ten year college reunion in the woods but soon become victims of slaughter from two boys and their mother who abduct, and kill anyone they find in the woods.
It’s said that Ratner is a huge fan of the original film.
Shock Till You Drop also claim that Bousman is no longer involved in a Scanners remake, which is good news. Bousman’s next film Repo: The Genetic Opera opens November 7th in the U.S.

At least they’re starting to remake movies that were either not that good and/or not that well known. Makes a change from trying to remake movies that were perfect to begin with (Texas Chainsaw, Halloween, etc.).
Mind you, while Scanners has more name recognition, I also wouldn’t mind a remake of that. Apart from the head explosion and the finale, I’m not that keen on Scanners (I prefer the first sequel and the supremely cheesy Scanner Cop) – definitely minor Cronenberg. There’s a lot of mileage in that particular concept that doesn’t have to revolve around people making funny faces at each other…
