The theme for Michael Bay’s Transformers movie is now online. You can directly download it to your PC by clicking here (thanks to Film Ick) but it sounds terrible. It’s a techno rock Linkin Park song (at least it sounds like them) and I laughed my ass off all the way through at how stupid it sounds!

A Shoot ‘Em Up sequel has already been written, according to it’s director Michael Davis. The original thriller starring Clive Owen, Paul Giamatti and Monica Belluci opens in September.

A remake of the 1973 horror movie The Legend of Hell House is in the works over at Fox Atomic. Roddy McDowell starred in the original which was an adaptation of a Richard Matheson novel, the same guy who wrote the sci-fi book I Am Legend.

Vadim Perelman is set to direct a remake of the 2001 Korean film Falian. Shooting begins in the fall on the currently untitled picture which revolves around a young refugee arriving from Russia and winding up in the clutches of Russian mobsters in Brighton Beach.

Taildraggers, a lame sounding pilot comedy movie is in development.

There are new trailers for Neil Jordan’s new drama The Brave One starring Jodie Foster (which looks superb) and Greg McLean’s follow-up horror movie to Wolf Creek in 2005, with Rogue (which doesn’t). Thanks to Filmstalker for the links!

There’s a great preview clip for the upcoming Jaws documentary The Shark is Still Working online at BDTV.

Peter Cullen speaks of his experiences returning to voice Optimus Prime in the Transformers movie, in a great interview at Supehero Hype…

I was just explaining to a person earlier that when I watched Optimus for the first time and the beeps went off to signal me to speak I was speechless. My jaw kind of hung down. I went “oh wow.” And they rolled it again and I was speechless still because I’m gawking at it and it was rather humorous. I had to apologize – “I’m sorry guys but this is awesome.” So that’s how that went.

“The Transformers theme sucks”

NewFlash everyone: this whole damned movie is going to suck. I loved Transformers as a child. What a shame that this hack bastard was brought in to ruin it.

Prince of Persia. I guess after Bay finishes destroying one of the most beloved cartoon franchises ever he’ll move on to a video game that he oeps he won’t catch as much hell over.

I’m not sure anymore..I’m definitely a big Transformers fan and the initial robot designs horrified me. But the trailers for this movie ( especially the last one) have been amazing. I mean, there really has never been a movie that showed action like that before. So long as Spielberg was able to talk Michael Bay into adding some story/depth, it might turn out to be better than we think.

But yes, that song sucks.

I gotta disagree. The only difference between this and say, Men In Black, or Hulk, is that this movie has giant robots instead of aliens. There are many folks who have been conditioned to just accept that movies nowadays require people to turn off their brain -alas, it was not, and should not, always be this way. The current trend is a holdover from the 90’s: use CGI to make previously unrealizeable grpahics using popular comics and video games as the selling point. This isn’t moviemaking, it’s pure marketing now.

Unforutantely there seems to be a big enough group of folks who go, “Oh, but it looks so cool!” When in truth there’s nothing new here. Cars and anks gets thrown around. Hulk did the same thing but does anyone want to see the rabid poodles bite Hulk’s balls again?

THIS is the reason why we have the glut of sh*t coming out of Hollywood now. Instead of people thinking before they see a movie all that matters is if the trailer has cool looking stuff on it. Hell, I could design a cool trailer, if that all somebody wants. I wonder how many of the folks going ga-ga over Bay’s latest bomb will be pissing and moaning when word of his next project is announced? Somehow, I think they will.

I agree with you. And I’m definitely someone who wants substance in my actions films. I wish they all had the depth in story as something like Terminator 2 had- where as cool as the action was, the story really grabbed people.

But I do think Transformers has things we’ve never seen before. Fighter jets flying at full speed, grabbing a bridge, and transforming in mid-air? I’ve never seen anything like that before. I’m usually not someone who will see a movie just because it “looks cool”. But everytime I’ve seen the trailer with an audience you can tell people just haven’t seen something like this before. And the fact that we are at least getting Peter Cullen back as Optimus Prime means there will be some emotional connection to the original. I wish there was more along the lines of what you’re suggesting, but..unfortunately we aren’t directing it.
