The theme song for QUANTUM OF SOLACE, performed by Jack White and Alicia Keys, titled Another Way To Die has had it’s first airplay this morning on the Jo Wiley show on UK Radio 1.
The song, for those of you who didn’t know, has actually been playing in the background of a recent Coke commercial, but can now be heard in full! It VERY much has a fairly typical Raconteurs sound to it – it wouldn’t be out of place on their most recent album.
Whether or not it really works as a Bond theme tune may well be questionable – but this is fucking awesome.
Hot off the press! Matt is out of the office today but has just rang me to ask to pass on his thoughts on the song.
“It is an horrendous bond song which, as far as bond themes go, is a huge step backwards”.
Oh well, I guess this song must be a bit like marmite…

Questionable, me arse! This song is the the toughest Bond theme since Live and Let Die.
And, also, I want to send my sincerest “Fuck You” sentiments to Noel Gallagher, who spoke out the other day against this collaboration. He laments that the worlds greatest Brit agent’s theme song shouldn’t be written by Americans, and that the whole thing is a “pisstake”. He then goes on to say that he wrote some tunes that made him think, “These could be Bond tunes”, but were ultimately rejected. Yeah, kinda like every Oasis album since Morning Glory.
From beefing with a rapper, a cartoon (Alburn) and now to Jack White? First off, he’s not the first American to contribute music to the series, and Gallagher obviously hasn’t heard this cut. Way to be lame, loser.
I like it a lot but I’m a tiny bit unsure of how it’ll work as a Bond theme. Once I see it with the movie though, I’m sure I’ll love it.
A step backwards? What kind of ignorant, Mickey Mouse bullshit is this? Matt is snoozing, big time. This song was a step backwards from Madonna and Chris Cornell? A step backwards from Duran Duran?
What the hell is going on across the pond? I know the U.S. has fucked up it’s national image, but come on. Clean the foggy gunk out of your ears, get your head out of your ass, whatever needs to be done to wake yourselves up.
Matt, my faith in you has literally been shaken.
…not stirred.
I think the track is pretty alright and is one of those song that grows on you the more you listen to it. I do think it fit the Bond franchise in its current form i.e. trying to be the modernished bourne-ish clon of a series of films, so i controversial track fits that
Yeah, I didn’t like it at first, but now I do.
I think it’s an okay song but a horrid bond song. It’s just too unelegant. I don’t mind a hard edge for bond, especially this being supposedly a hardcore bond but it has too much garage band feel(which isn’t bond).
It’s growing on me. There’s some fantastic ideas that are pure Bond, but it’s not been put together too well. Feels like they didnt know how to link their ideas. That piano riff is awesome.
Doesn’t work as a Bond theme at all. I wonder if this is simply the single version and if the theme version will be different. I can’t picture this playing in front of a Bond flick as it is.
Considering the first revamped Bond film was a piece of shite, complete with anti-climactic plot lines, a less than stellar effort from Chris Cornell, and the worst Bond since Lazenby, what is the hang up with this contribution to the series? I’m finding it hard to understand why people are so adamant to bash this song, and say that it’s not fitting to the genre?
Someone please explain to me at length why the feel as though this would not work as a theme. Here again, the last few themes have sucked real bad. If it’s a simple argument that you prefer someone like Madonna over Jack White, then please explain this to me.
I grew up digesting every single Bond film, and this theme seems to work perfectly to me for what the makers of these films are trying to accomplish. Is this a British vs. American thing? Would you have rather had Noel Gallagher compose the theme, is that it? Cause I’m really having a hard time believing that so many people have their heads up their asses.
I swear to God, you guys are fucking clueless.
like this song a lot and I think it can work really well as a bond theme.
Honestly you really can’t say anything about the song until you see the intro to Quantum of solace. I trust them with what they are trying to do, i think it’ll work well.
the only “shade” of Bond that I extracted from this song (after having listened to it thrice in a row) were a few chords taken from the all-too-familiar Bond leitmotif.
apart from that, the discordant melodies remind me of Tarentino movies like Pulp Fiction and Death Proof.
less characteristic of Bond, more characteristic of B-movies.
Hey dirtylungs stop talking out of your ARSE!!!
Casino Royale was brilliant and baring in mind what a massive box office and DVD success it was, i’d say you need some serious taste.
You could fertilize a field with all the crap you talk!!!
