Want some proof that QUANTUM OF SOLACE was a very last minute choice for the title of the next James Bond picture?
Here it is, in the form of a teaser poster for the next movie. No title… just 007 and the date of the film’s release, and then a shadowed figure of someone who is posing more like an Iraqi freedom soldier than Bond.
Raise those AK-47’s in the air if you think this poster sucks…

For something that supposedly plays on the 007 iconography, the AK-47 seems a bit malplaced - and yes, a little too graphically connected to warfare or other franchises. (First one that springs to mind is Cruise in M:I:3, but I’m probably missing a more obvious one)

GASP. A James Bond TEASER poster with simply the numbers 007 emblazened upon it! Surely undeniable proof that QUANTUM OF SOLACE is a last minute quicky title! A regular Sherlock, he is, that Holmes kid.

Pretty plain and I don’t dig the AK-47, but it’s only a teaser and only needs the infamous agent-code and a silhouette to say: “It’s Bond!”
Therefore, I say that the “Quantum of Solace was a rushed title!” theory is flawed. The fact is that, ultimately, it doesn’t matter what a Bond film is called. People will roll up to see “the latest 007 movie” whatever the title is.

well it’s not that great, but what did you expect. it’s a goddamn teaser poster. teaser posters normally just have the title and some generic visual that somewhat correlates to the movie.
This is good enough. I can expect the next poster to be a lot better.

It’s not an AK-47. It’s a H&K MP5, the same gun he had at the very end of “Casino Royale”. Perhaps to subtly show that this is a direct sequel, not just the “next” Bond flick. I’m sure the posters will get better.

Yep, that’s an MP5 — not an AK-47; the MP5 is a much smaller weapon (submachinegun). Usually chambered in 9mm, and commonly used in the EU by police and special forces. (You’ll find SWAT in the US use it too, though sometimes in larger chambers).
The one in the picture sports a flash suppressor.

Actually, it’s not an H&K MP5, but the UMP in its 9 mm version (called H&K UMP-9).

this is a great poster, it shows him in the last scene of casino royale standing over mr.white it shows that it will take place where casino royale left off and its a ump .45 not an ak47. this is a great poster if you know what it means and are not a complete idiot.

the ump .45 has a slightly straighter magazine, I must agree the gun in the poster is the ump 9mm version

Well done to the guys that spotted the gun is a H&K UMP-9 with silencer and extended capacity magazine ( UMP40 and UMP45 use a straight magazine )
For all of those that thought it was an AK47, shame on you ! And more so for the stupid comments on it being bad taste with the war and all etc. Get a grip !
As for the title of this film, yes “QUANTUM OF SOLACE” does sound really naff but is in fact a line from one of Ian Flemings books, the creator of bond, and there is a very detailed description on what a “QUANTUM OF SOLACE” is.
Sine the declassification of war time records more has been revealed and more importantly the truth of some of the very secret work that Ian Fleming did during the war has come to light, and highlights the basis for bond.
To mark this the film “Golden Eye” is in fact named after the code name of one of the top secret operations that Ian Fleming not only took part in but planned as well.
Its all there in black and white if you know where to look.
The point is, the name of the new film may seem stupid to many people but it is, as all Bond films are named, a subtle nod to the secret work of British spy’s during the war, the original bond stories or the until recently secret activities of its creator.
The trick is, are you clever enough to find out, what where and why a Bond film is named as it is and separate the fiction from the real hidden facts…
