At the Toronto International Film Festival, out promoting his upcoming film THE BROTHERS BLOOM, up and coming director Rian Johnson mentioned to OWF of a sci-fi/time travel film he hopes to work on next by the name of LOOPER and finally The Hollywood Reporter have caught up to tell us about it.

Johnson hopes to film from his own script early next year for Endgame Entertainment (who financed BLOOM).

Plot details as below…

“Looper” is set in a present-day world in which a group of hitmen are sent their victims from the future

Sounds cool, I really like the idea of it. If you think about it, it’s not really all that different to the first TERMINATOR movie where Arnie is sent back in time to kill someone who is a threat to the future. That’s bascially what these victims are doing, just it’s a threat to their own future and if it’s explored smartly, it could be a good watch.

Johnson attempted to reinvent the film noir with his excellent movie BRICK and turned the con-man movie into a fun studio friendly picture which looks to be the year’s biggest Marmite film (love or hate, no in between) in THE BROTHERS BLOOM. Something tells me this one will be the former rather than the later, and that’s cool with me!
