st.jpgTight finish at the U.S. Box Office this weekend, but in the end it was Stomp the Yard that once again came out on top over Night at the Museum. The urban dance drama has now taken in $41.6 million over two weeks, a fantastic profit on a movie that only cost $14 million to make, and is supposedly rubbish.

Night at the Museum has now surpassed the $200 million mark, and is now one of the success stories of 2006 as it’s now the 67th highest grossing domestic movie ever, and has made more money in the U.S. than Superman Returns.

The big new release of the week was the horror remake of The Hitcher which grossed $8.3 million and sold twice as many tickets as the original movie 20 years ago.

The rest of the box office is mostly taken up by Oscar hopefuls (nominations announced tomorrow) with overall box office down 13% on this time last year. Other than The Hitcher, no other big releases this weekend can be attributed to this.
