Peter Berg tackling Universal’s Lone Survivor

17.jpgPeter Berg’s The Kingdom I think looks absolutely superb and I’m wishing it all the success in the world when it hits theatres next month, as we move into the more serious period of films as the summer starts to wind down. Berg is of course currently filming his ’superhero in crisis’ movie with Will Smith which IMDB are now strangely calling Hancock for what was previously known as John Hancock and the more memorable title Tonight, He Comes.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they changed the title once more before the movie has finished filming.

According to Variety, the every busy Berg has attached himself to another film. This time it’s Lone Survivor, a movie he will adapt and direct himself based on the real life story of Marcus Luttrell. He was a Navy Seal who lead a team into Afghanistan in 2005 to kill a Taliban leader and as the title suggests, his team were all wiped out apart from himself who survived.

The movie seems to have ended up with Berg after he bonded with Luttrell, when he asked him and other former Navy Seals to help him out during filming of The Kingdom and it’s various action set pieces.

The movie is expected to be Peter Berg’s next film after Hancock and I think it sounds like a tale that is worth telling. These movies are horrific but they are often so much more powerful than the news pieces we see on our screens, which we can easily switch off from and dismiss. Movies are a little harder to do that when your confined in an enclosed space with a huge screen telling the story in front of you.

I’ve uploaded a video with the lone Navy Seal survivor which is worth listening to and you really shouldn’t dismiss. This should be an important film.

Lt. Michael Murphy led the mission, Marcus Luttrell was a leading Petty Officer, and the only survivor. I know this because my childrens cousin ET1 Jeffrey Allen Lucas,SEAL Team 10, died on the helicopter attempting to rescue the team.
