Paramount goes Blu-Ray. All six majors now with the format.

Hardly news because it’s not like Paramount were going to just release standard DVD’s of their films and not venture back into High Definition DVD as soon as they got the chance.

Following on from Universal’s decision earlier in the week to quickly jump from the sinking ship that is HD-DVD comes news that Paramount Pictures (who were previously HD-DVD exclusive) are to do the same thing.

“We are pleased that the industry is moving to a single high-definition format, as we believe it is in the best interest of the consumer. As we look to (begin) releasing our titles on Blu-ray, we will monitor consumer adoption and determine our release plans accordingly.”

Which yes, means that TRANSFORMERS will be out on Blu-Ray sooner rather than later.

Also, The Digital Bits carried the news earlier in the week that on Paramount’s website (since removed by the studio, but you know it’s coming) details were present of Special Edition DVDs for the INDIANA JONES saga, likely to hit around the time of the fourth movie in May. A Blu-Ray boxset is also quite likely after today’s development.

If anyone who is working on those DVDs right now is reading this site, will you please strap down Steven Spielberg and make him do an audio commentary. Or get some film historian, or even George Lucas to do it. The last box set you brought out was badly missing such a feature.
