I’ve just filled up on a Chicken Mayonnaise Sandwich and I’m ready to see the delicious SWEENEY TODD gets some love. I would go crazy if 3:10 TO YUMA or THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM was able to win a nod for something but I can’t see it.
As usual the BBC coverage goes on and on about ATONEMENT and whether it’s going to win anything. Who frikkin’ cares is what I say!

Was hoping there might be something for Rescue Dawn or 3:10 to Yuma.
At least Kiera Knightley didn’t get nominated and Viggo Mortenson did get one.
I am sooo happy that Viggo got his nomination :D
Don’t like the fact that Cate Blanchett got nominated for ‘Elizabeth’ instead of Angelina Jolie!!
Also ‘Into the Wild’ was snubbed for best music and best picture!
I was thinking the same thing about the music from Into the Wild too, Luisa. I was also pretty upset that Johnny Greenwood’s score from There Will Be Blood got snubbed from original score too. Until, I read this article about the scores being disqualified. Interesting stuff.

I’m very upset There Will Be Blood wasn’t nominated for best score, I loved it. I also have looked and saw Diving Bell and Butterfly is nominated for many things besides best foreign film. That’s ridiculous. I’m very happy Viggo was nominated as well as Tommy Lee Jones. But, we all know Daniel Day Lewis will win and he deserves it definitely. He was astonishing in there will be blood. For me its either him or Viggo.
I think this year is much stronger that last. I loved The Departed but it wasn’t Marty’s best – I think it did so well because 06 wasn’t a great year and the Academy was suffering from Ordinary People/Raging Bull guilt.
Sad that there is nothing for Zodiac and Jolie didn’t get a nom for A Mighty Heart. She was a revelation in that role and really changed my opinion of her as an actress.
I think it could be No Country’s year… PTA, like Scorsese, may have to wait a few years for Oscar glory.
Some interesting competition in there, though I too am disappointed by the ignorance of Zodiac. I’ve also never heard of any of the foreign language films exc ept The Counterfeiters, and the 7 noms for Michael Clayton are also quite surprising – I remember that just coming and going in the blink of an eye without any fuss before anyone even had the chance to see it.
Anyway, a lot of interesting nominations in there and, if the ceremony goes ahead, it could be quite exciting to watch.
