Note to Will Ferrell & John C. Reilly. MOVE ON!

So the trailer went live today for the latest Will Ferrell comedy Step Brothers and I have only one thing to say to Ferrell and his co-star John C. Reilly - MOVE ON!

We are sick to death of these ridiculous comedies. Just like what happened to Jim Carrey five years ago, Ferrell’s comedy persona has completely ran it’s course at this point and he is just regurgitating the same old crap movie after movie. Is their really a difference between his new movie Semi-Pro and last year’s flop Blades of Glory?

MOVE ON!

And do you remember when John C. Reilly use to be great? You know, really, really great.

When he would show up in movies like Magnolia, The Aviator and Gangs of New York and he would just be the coolest character actor on the planet. Do you remember Boogie Nights? Just awesome.

But Walk Hard didn’t work for him. Talladega Nights didn’t. It’s really about time he went back to being cool again.

This looks so bad, I don’t know quite how to put it into words. Both Ferrell and Reilly have so much cinematic potential it kills me to see them do something like this…

You can see the HD version here. The movie comes co-written by Will Ferrell and Adam Mckay… the director of Talladega Nights and Anchorman. The movie opens July 25th (U.S.) and September 26th (U.K.).

  1. How was Blades of Glory a flop?
It made $118 mil ($145 mil worldwide), which lands between Anchorman $85 mil ($90 mil worldwide) and Talladega Nights made $148 mil ($162 mil worldwide).

  4. You’re full of shit when you presume to say ‘we’ are sick to death of these comedies. Ferrel is the fucking king!

Seriously though, I was talking to someone the other day about how Ferrel seems to be doing the same thing over and over these days. And you’re right about Reilly. Is that really the same Reilly we saw in Casualties of War? Shame.

  7. It’s all a ruse and super-stealthy career plan. Ferrell and Reilly keep on doing the same thing which pays an absolute fortune and then they drop something totally different. Startled audiences and critics alike suddenly gasp in shock at their new age masterwork and their star is catapulted to new stratospheric heights.

Basically, I reckon that, like a lot of artistes, the likes of Ferrell, Reilly and other members of the Frat Pack do the same-old-same-old to keep in work, bring in the cash and have fun whilst also keeping half-an-eye on the occassional oddity that offers something a bit more substantial. At least I’m pretty sure that’s the situation for Reilly, maybe not so much for Mr. Ferrell…

  8. Yeah, if Ferrel and Reilly are making a fortune from this formula, why would they break from it? Kind of like how De Niro made that string of shit movies like Godsend, City by the Sea, Showtime and 15 Minutes. I am convinced he appeared in such movies for the money to put towards his own production company.

If anything, Hollywood is a business above all else.
