Didn’t that DARK CITY-esque trailer for the most exciting British sci-fi film since maybe forever, just totally rock your socks off?
FRANKLYN finally looks like a British film with a pulse. It has a desire to think big and aim to deliver a movie that in size is matching with the biggest Hollywood has to produce but also the has the creative ambition to try something different. To not compromise, to make something that won’t necessarily hit the biggest audience but will if it’s as good as say DONNIE DARKO… it’s word of mouth will carry it to a nice profit.
Our friends at BadTaste have sent us a first look at the official poster for the upcoming movie…

Just a minor annoyance but couldn’t it have said SAM RILEY, RYAN PHILLIPE, EVA GREEN… just to match the order the actors are pictured.
First time Brit writer/director Gerald McMorrow makes his directorial debut. Poster and title could have been better in retrospect but man, that trailer rocks…
The movie opens in the U.K. on February 20th but has yet to find a distributor in the U.S.

In terms of profitability, the big difference between this and DARKO is the budget. DARKO was a relatively simple film with minimal special effects set near our current time period. This thing, on the other hand, is much bigger and full of special effects. Recouping the production budget primarily on word of mouth will be a much more difficult task.
