First Werner Herzog, and now another veteran who should know better has cast the almost useless Nicolas Cage for an upcoming thriller.
This time it’s John Carpenter but let’s be honest, he has hardly been sane for years.
The movie is Scared Straight, a Nu Image/Millennium Films Production that for the umpteenth time will see Cage serving jail time (Con Air, Raising Arizona, Face/Off, The Rock)…
Straight” follows a troubled youth who’s sent to prison off the Scared Straight crime-prevention program, which imprisons delinquent teens for a short period in the hopes of deterring them from a life of crime. While the teen is there, a riot breaks out and the prisoners take him hostage. A lifer, played by Cage, is forced to help the young man out.
Joe Gazzam wrote the original spec script which has since been redrafted by Ron Brinkenhoff (The Guardian).
An October start date is planned. Apparently the movie was originally a Rob Cohen project, which further fuels my argument that Carpenter has gone insane.
If the movie does actually get made, it will Carpenter’s first since 2001’s Ghosts of Mars.

This movie will make a ton of money. That description alone sounds like classic Nic Cage blockbuster.
As for “useless”, don’t forget Matt, that Cage has two Oscar noms and one win under his belt. Plus two BAFTA noms and one Golden Globe win and three other noms, and a Screen Actors Guild award plus another nom, and the Sundance Film Festival’s Tribute to Independent Vision Award. lol.
Not interested,Carpenter has long since done his best work! thats why he hasn’t done a film since 2001.
I don’t know what to say.. i swear to god. This sounds like the worst idea EVER! I am praying that if there is a god John Carpenter will come to his senses and NOT DO THIS! I am a life long fan of JC and this sounds awful. I am such a fan i even really dig Ghosts of Mars!
I find this news really, really depressing because he is not past his prime. I don’t know if anyone saw it but Masters of Horror – Cigarette Burns is one of the best things he ever did! Pro Life was okay but CB is amazing! what happened to the possible Vampire, Priest, Zombies, etc. movie he supposedly was comin’ back for?!? Shit, if you’re gonna make this half abortion of a movie idea at least ditch this dumbass Cage and cast KURT “FUCKIN” RUSSELL!!!

Sounds like a great B-movie concept which is a genre movies are sorely lacking nowadays. Hey guys there’s more to life than just comic book films. I hope Carpenter scores the film himself! Cage is the perfect actor for this material and lets hope John has one great movie left in him.
