Seriously guys… one scene of The Joker in a bodybag which would probably last 90 seconds and you all got worked up over it – citing words like artistic integrity.
It’s not like they were chopping a whole performance. It’s one scene… Ledger’s gonna have a ton of them in the movie and he will have some that are on the cutting room floor. It happens to every film.
Anyway there’s no need for you to panic now. Looks like the scene won’t be cut if Moviehole’s sources are to be correct…
A source close to the “The Dark Knight” told us this morning that the film remains in-tact – and nothing of Ledger’s will be cut from the movie, including the body-bag scene. ‘’I KNOW for a fact that that scene is in the film. I also know that WB has made no such mandate and that Chris [Nolan] is honest when saying that he will not change what was intended with The Joker.”
I hate the idea personally. I can separate films from reality just fine but I’m also human and my instinctive reaction when watching the film will be to see Heath Ledger in a bodybag and not The Joker.
If it’s vital to the film then fine keep it in but if it could be a throwaway scene, I just think it solves more problems by just cutting it.
Switching gears for a second, Moviehole also claim to have seen Iron Man already and have informed us that Samuel L. Jackson’s scene as Nick Fury has been chopped as widely expected. Now that cutting makes no sense and is one to get angry over!

Sucks that you hate it. It is all about artistic integrity. Sure, cut the scene if it’s not needed. But don’t let the actors death influence your decisions over the final product. It’s petty, disrespectful, and an uneeded sacrifice.
It’s not possible to not allow an actors death to influence the final film.
You can’t tell me it won’t effect the way you watch the film and whether Nolan likes it or not, his death will have effected him and his mood when cutting the final film.
The final product will reflect this.
The way I see it is if Heath’s performance is as great as people claim, we won’t be seeing Heath, we’ll be seeing Joker.
A friend said this…
“My vote is that it be left alone, if truly this was how the post-edit cut was meant to be.
Actors are human and will die, but I doubt they’d want their art to be censured for fear of reminding fans that they too have passed were we will all one day go. Does the Joker die in the film, and if so, should that be cut? I doubt there will be a way to watch this movie with acute awareness that the cackling clown has moved on, let us have the fullness of what Heath gave to his final and possibly most intense performance.
We don’t shun the self-portraits of Van Gough without an ear, reminding us of his mad genius (and maybe lead poisoning). In a few years, when the pang has dulled, we would be sorry that his last performance was clipped to spare people awareness of reality as they absorb their entertainment.
And it almost seems trite to assume the audience wouldn’t deign to remember Ledger’s passing as they are thrilled by his performance.
The worst that could be done would be to generate hype about the controversial scene if kept to draw curiosity seekers and hype. Just be respectful and the film will carry that much more weight.”
I can’t understand why more fans aren’t upset over the cut Nick Fury scene. For the past year, everyone has been ripping up WB and DC for the JL and solo superhero films having different universes and actors. Everyone has been beating WB over the head with Marvel’s shared universe and planned lead up to Avengers. All of that Marvel praise hinged on the Nick Fury scene. Without it, there is no crossover. Marvel is now in the same boat as the film DCU, and nobody is upset over that?? After all of that bloviating on messageboards?
There’s still that Iron Man Hulk connection which can be seen as more important because of the Avengers film.
If Ledger could speak from the grave, he would be saying not to cut any of his scenes at all. It’s his last role, and I’m sure he would want all of us to see it in its entirety.
Sam Jackson’s scene wasn’t cut. It happens after the credits. It’s their way of making you watch them, and appreciating who made the movie for you. Why would anybody “widely expect” Sam Jackson’s scene would be cut? It’s Sam Jackson!
When you see the Joker in any scene you will hardly be able to imagine it’s Heath Ledger. Body bag or no body bag. It’s that type of performance.
