Looks like the Mortal Kombat movie that was to focus on the character of SUB ZERO that we told you about many moons ago is the latest MK movie to die by the way side.
Moviehole (who ran the other story) are now telling us that the long gestured third MK movie will actually be a restart. mink is said to be directing. Yes that’s not Christopher Mink (his real name)…. or hell even Mink with a capital M but instead ”mink” which is said to be a nickname given to him by his mother.
He previously directed Into the Sun with Steven Seagal apparently.
An insider to Moviehole gives us more…
“The movie is not going to be a prequel, sequel, or in any form be related to the previous 2 movie. Pretty much like Batman Begins, is going to restart the series with new concepts, stories, etc”.
“The reason it is taking so long is the script, so many parts are involved. The team at Threshold (the ones that holds the right to MK) are constantly writing drafts (along with the director), which they have to send to Midway (makers of the game) so the creator of the game (Ed Boon) adds notes and some input to the draft, then to the studio (rumored to be Lionsgate at this moment).”
mink has said to have held meetings with Christopher Lambert (Rayden in MK 1) and Robin Shou (Liu Kang in MK1).
Ok great, so your going for the restart idea… fine. So why go after two actors that were in the other movie’s franchise? Although to be fair they were perfect for characters but instantly you are going to think of the other movies when you see those two.
I know many of you will think a Mortal Kombat movie shouldn’t be made, but hell if they make it like 300 then why the hell not? 300 didn’t have much dialogue/story moments and whenever it did it felt kind of flat…. so why can’t MK go in that direction?
