Rocky Balboa was ok. A little too dry and sentimental for my liking but John Rambo on the other hand looks like it has a place in the 21st century. Which I can honestly admit I never thought I would ever say.

New trailer has debuted over at AICN. It’s just as bloody and intense as the rough footage we saw months and months back.

Look for this at the end of the year…

Personally I thought Rocky Balboa was light-fare at first. Stallow said over and over and over that he felt th series ended on the WAY wrong note in Rocky 5 and that wanted to give the series an up-ending.

I think he was so focused on this that he decided to make the whole movie essentially one, big warm puppy dog moment, with a little boxing thrown in at the end. But other than the occaisinaly syrupy-ness of the film’s feel I thought it was a pretty good, if accepted for what it was –Rocky at the end of his career, being made by Stallone trying to give the audience an “up-ending.”

The writing was solid, though nowhere near as deep as the first or second one, but it was the right kind of ending for the series. And it felt like a genuine Rocky movie, something I can’t really say for Rocky 5.
