Mimi Leder will tackle the story of young merchant marine Woody Guthrie whose tour of duty in the Second World War is being scripted by Leder’s brother Reuben.
The film will be Remember Their Names and is based on Jim Longhi’s memoir “Woody, Cisco & Me.”
The film is expected to be Leder’s next and will shoot in New York and Sicily.
“It is an untold aspect of WWII, with great characters and music,” Leder said.
Leder has just completed her next film Thick of Thieves (previously titled The Code) starring Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman as two crooks trying to steal from the Russian mob.
Leder is best known for directing Deep Impact and Pay it Forward.
