A feature documentary entitled The Rise and Fall of Mike Tyson should hit our cinema screens next year, with James Toback set to helm. The project will be put together from over 30 hours of recently completed interviews with the ex-champ for a documentary that promises to life up to it’s title in showcasing the whole truth of Tyson’s ups and downs.
From Variety…
The point is not to polish his image or make a cinematic apology, but rather to get a firsthand look at a very complex and epic story,” Toback said.
He was honest about all the things that have highlighted his life, from the bitter divorce, the ear-biting, prison, to his becoming a sex addict. He is self-aware, smart and a totally fractured personality, and he made himself completely vulnerable.”
I can’t help but feel that the documentary, no matter how well intentioned, will no doubt put Tyson in a more favourable light than he probably deserves. A great boxer in his time. No doubt one of the best of the modern era. But time and time again he has shown himself to be dishonest and a dispacable human being.
I’ll watch it though but you won’t find me in tears over his life.
