Theatre director Phyllida Lloyd will be directing her own Broadway musical Mamma Mia for the big screen, with Meryl Streep set to star.
More info from Coming Soon…
Streep will play the rebellious single mother of a bride-to-be who never met her father. The daughter invites three likely paternal candidates to her wedding, and the ensuing conflict triggers the performance of 22 Abba hits including “Dancing Queen,” “Take a Chance on Me” and “The Winner Takes It All.”
The musical has grossed a massive $1.6 billion since it’s debut in 1999, with productions of the show taking place all over the globe.
It’s obvious this is going to be really popular and make a shit load of money. I really can’t stand musicals at the best of times, but a one filled with Abba tunes?
Please god, no!

Well… there are some great ABBA tunes, though, and Streep is always mesmerizing.

Streep was great in The Devil Wears Prada. Apparently she can sing too, so at least that’s something.

She can definitely sing … watch “Postcards from the Edge.” She not only gives a perfect comedic performance, she also sings two songs in the movie, including a movie-ending number recorded LIVE. Awesome.
