Matthew Perry is 17 again

Matthew PerryOh, Mr. Perry.

What are you doing sir?

I know you have to find projects to fill your time in before an inevitable FRIENDS reunion but is this the best you could do?

The Hollywood Reporter says Perry will play second fiddle to Zac Efron of all people in 17, New Line’s teen comedy which will be directed by IGBY GOES DOWN helmer Burr Steers.

Basically the film is a rip-off from BIG, VICE VERSA, 13 GOING ON 30 and probably more movies in which a middle-age father who wakes up to find he’s 17 again. In order to be close to his children (yes they can’t even get that part of the plot right… he SHOULD be playing a character who wants to relive his youth), he enrolls in the same school as them.

Leslie Mann who was hilarious in KNOCKED UP is also on board as Perry’s wife.

Production begins early next month and seriously, the idea of Efron leading a movie like this just gives me shivers. Does he really have the talent to carry this film?

“talent” and “Zac Efron” should never apear in the same senetence. And you’re right Matt – this type of plot has been bled dry time after time and it shows no sign of being any more interesting in this film. Add Freaky Friday to that list of films that have used the lame switch plot – Chandler Bing deserves better than this…

I’m okay with Matthew Perry. He could make it good. But one thing….that’s GOTTA be pretty damn humiliating if your younger self is zac efron. ugh

What’s wrong with Zac Efron?
He’s still building his acting carrer an I think he’s cool!

Oh, please… Matthew Perry is a good actor, but give Zac Efron a chance to prove he can go on…

Just saw a prescreening and this is one you want to see, now! Matthew Perry, always a favorite to watch, did his usual good acting, but I was very impressed with Zac Efron’s acting. The plot was a nice change from what you were expecting and everyone came out saying “Wow, that one really made you think.” Way to go boys!

OOh, that is JUST what I thought when I found out about the movie: 1st: Matty, you deserve better! 2. Zac Efron = [puke]… Zac is neither talented nor has the sophisticated intelligence Matthew is so well-known for.

Well EX-CUSE-ME!!! don’t need to be sooo tragic about a film! Have you seen it yet? Why don’t you people go to the cinema with the idea that the film might be good instead of thinking “Oh well… lets see what i can comment on this time!”.

Didi, you have no idea what your talking about, Matthew Perry is in his forties whereas zac erfon is only starting his acting carear and he’s only 19 or 20 .. .. .. who are you lot to judge anyone.

Didi on March 6, 2009 at 4:50 pm

Chipmunk300, I know enough as to what I’m talking about. I was not referring to what one can achieve, but to what one IS. Furthermore, there’s an abyss of difference between your only-starting-acting-career Zac and Matthew back by the time he was that very age…
And @ people!, well I WILL go to the cinema with the idea that the film could be good. I might even like it a hell of a lot. But what I wrote about half an year ago was “JUST what I thought when I found out about the movie”. I can see now I’ve put it somewhat rudely, which definitely helps to make the impression of narrow-mindedness. I don’t like Zac a lick more than I did then, and yet my auspice to the movie is unprejudiced all the same. I don’t know how I do that. xD

I am going to see this movie regardless of what anyone says, what anyone writes, what anyone thinks, what anyone doesn’t say, what anyone doesn’t write, or what anyone doesn’t think. That’s just the way I am. . .a “think for myself” and “do for myself” kinda’ gal. Happily, that’s what happens when you turn 40…

i saw it the other day twice, because it was really good, great talented actors, with a performnce which was outstanding, it was funny in many directions

The movie was alright, but if you were a teen in the 80’s it is just depressing, matthew perry looks soooo old, gah!!! I really like him too but he just wasn’t that funny to me. I thought Zac Efron was great and what a cutie, I don’t know why everyone bashes him?
