This summer’s The Bourne Ultimatum will be the last for Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. The actor spoke to The Daily Telegraph whilst out in Cannes promoting the upcoming Ocean’s Thirteen, where he let everyone know he wouldn’t be returning for a fourth movie…
“The Bourne thing I’m definitely done with,”
There are currently four books in Robert Ludlum’s Bourne cannon, with this summer’s movie being the third one translated to the big screen. The Bourne Legacy released in 2004 by writer Eric Van Lustbader has yet to be made into a feature film, so you can bet your ass that the big money this summer’s movie makes, Universal won’t be so willing to walk away from the character as easily as Damon.
With Lustbader currently writing a fifth book in the series, Universal will no doubt see this as being a potential “Bond” like franchise, so expect the role to be re-cast for the next film.
Mark Wahlberg would seem the obvious choice… maybe too obvious.

Good for Matt. The first Bourne was Boure-ing. The second was MUCH better, a damned good film. But Damon’s becoming associtated with the character to the point of type-casting, which he’s ALWAYS tried to avoid. So frankly I don’t blame him jumping ship now and getting off the franchise on a creative high-note, that is assuming this is any good.
I dunno about that JaySmack. I thought The Bourne Identity was much better than The Bourne Supremacy. The Bourne Supremacy had some horrible cinematography. That whole “shaky camera” was well annoying.
i still think matt should do the 4th cuz the 3rd was so good i watched it 4 times but i still think he should make a fourth cuz the 3rd kinda ends with u thinkn whats gonna happen nxt. if they make a 4th i think it will be a hit. i already have several ideas of what could happeen nxt! oh and matt damon ur so sexii
Hell ya Matt should do the fourth. Who else could play the fourth… Nobody because when you think Matt Damon you think Jason Bourne whipping ass. Wich makes me proud David Webb being from rural MO.

Never say never! It’s a good gig and the series rocks although the shaky camera stuff needs to go. They need to write in a new never-before-seen-exotic hottie as a side kick. Preferably some slavic babe with a desperate look to her. Ultimatum was the weakest of the three but still good. If Damon won’t do it, Wahlberg probably could. He needs to develop an edgy part of the character. Too much money to be made by Universal so a fourth one will come out.

I love all the Bourne movies!!!became a Bourne fan in Europe reading the novels and except for a few changes made to the stories, they are a wild ride!! Matt Damon IS Jason Bourne. No one else can do this justice. This will not be like the Bond movies. That name was a name give to the ‘top agent’ Bourne is Bourne.
