Madsen hints that Grindhouse killed off Sin City 2

2931238104.jpgSome worrying but expected quotes from Michael Madsen on the status of Sin City 2 have appeared online. In an interesting interview with Premiere, he spilled the beans on the following bits of info…

They haven’t shot it yet. I don’t know if they ever will. I am not sure [about] the franchise. I think the Grindhouse thing didn’t kind of work out…I haven’t seen the script for Sin City 2. I don’t know if they are gonna make it. I hope they do. And if and when they do, I will be in it.

I can’t understand why Grindhouse has any impact on this thing. Sin City made money, sold well on DVD and the numbers for the sequel WILL do well. Everyone knows it. Grindhouse has nothing to do with Sin City apart from the fact that they were both “fun” films.

The only impact Grindhouse might have had on Sin City is that it might have tainted director Robert Rodriguezs‘ ego of releasing successful, balls to the wall fun movies. But then his next film looks to be Barbarella, which is is exactly the same kinda of thing. That’s not a straight traditional Hollywood movie either.

Madsen also gives us a quick update on the status of Hell Ride and Inglorious Bastards

I just finished Hellride for Quentin [Tarantino] on Wednesday, and then I had to go straight from the set to LAX. Hellride is a big giant motorcycle movie. I just saw Quentin at the Martinez [Hotel in Cannes]. He is looking well. But he is writing Inglorious Bastards. We haven’t started shooting yet. He is still out promoting Death Proof.

So the good news…

Further confirmation that Quentin Tarantino is finishing off his script for his WWII epic

the bad news…

Sin City 2 looks to have gone the way of Halo… and is now in a coma.

Which movie you looking forward to more? Sin City 2 or a WWII epic from Tarantino? I’m going with the latter but I love the idea of them both!

I think Madsen was most likely misinterpreted/taken out of context. Hell, he may well have been a little tipsy when he gave the comments, (Bruce Willis is sometimes) -we don’t know.
Of course Grindhouse has NOTHING to do with Sin City 2, other than Rodriguez, and both he and Quentin are moving on to their next projects, as is Frank Miller. So they’ve not lost prestige or stuio confidence, which means they aren’t the reason Madsen is pessimistic now.

I think most likely Madsen’s pessimism is in reference to how long the project has been delayed, two years now. Mostly due (I think) to Rodriguez holding out for Angelina Jolie to play the dame in “A Dame To Kill For.” I can understand how he feels, that getting her would really make the movie (I agree and I feel his waiting is more than justified, but not for much longer) but Jolie doesn’t seem to be too eager to clear her schedule for the shoot. And as Rodriguez has shown with all his films he doesn’t take months of your life shooting, rather only a few weeks, comparatively.

But from the looks of things that’s too much for Jolie. I hope she’ll finally say yes, but if by the end of the Summer she doesn’t commit to a Winter shoot then it’s time to cut bait and move on to another actress -but dear God, not Scarlett Johannsen, I HATE her.
Two years of development for a sequel that could have been out in 2006 is long enough.

Yeah the speed Rodriguez can work sometimes is quite scary, so maybe he will shoot this in the latter part of the year and it will still be out late summer 2008.

Let’s hope.
