Madeleine McCann story heading to the big screen?

madeleinemccannAccording to The Guardian, talks are underway between media company IMG and the parents of missing toddler Madeleine McCann to turn their story into a feature film.

For those of you outside the UK who aren’t familiar with this, 4-year-old Madeleine vanished from the rented holiday apartment in Portugal where her family were staying.

Madeleine disappeared on May 3 last year while parents Gerry and Kate McCann were eating at a nearby restaurant. For further reading try Wiki and The Times.

The McCanns began a relentless media campaign to try and help them find their missing daughter. The couple soon were subject to a backlash from the British press after they were named as formal suspects back in September.

A lucrative film deal would help boost the cash flow for the £1m fund dedicated to finding the four-year-old, which is quickly running out.

Intriguingly, GONE BABY GONE has had it’s UK release shelved because of fears the movie’s plot may be insensitive.

Now the McCann story is becoming a movie of its own… despite the fact that this particular news story hasn’t come to a conclusion and the film would likely struggle to convey a clear message. Well, apart from not being so bloody stupid as to leave your young daughter home alone, or maybe not to use her disappearance as an excuse to get your 15 minutes.
