Lionsgate have other ideas on CONAN director, is it going to land with Marcus Nispel?

Over the weekend we heard from Chud that V for Vendetta director James McTeigue was to land the job of replacing Brett Ratner on the directing gig for the new Conan reboot, but now the site claim to have some more information suggesting that although McTeigue is the firm choice for producers Nu Image/Millenium Films, distributor Lionsgate have other names in mind.

They have a list of names they want for the film and McTeigue is not included…

Christophe Gans (Silent Hill, Brotherhood of the Wolf) who is a pretty damn good choice I have to say. He is a great genre director and is visually spectacular…

Neil Marshall (Doomsday, The Descent) who is busy right now making Centurion, a swords and sandals roman epic which has no doubt caught the eye of Lionsgate…

Marcus Nispel (Pathfinder, Friday the 13th). From the sites wording, they say Nispel is being “aggressively pursued” and is now the favourite to land the gig, once again a guy whose movies can look great at times but just have no substance. They say it could be his film by the end of the week.

Out of all the choices, I would have gone for Gans to make the best movie but possibly not the most commercial.

Production is suppose to begin in Bulgaria this August and at the end of the day, anyone is better than Ratner, right?

Agree with you on Gans being the best choice out of that list. If Nispel gets it at least it will look good. The only film Marshall has done that I like is Dog Soldiers, which was just cheesy as hell so I’d rather not have him making the Conan movie.

I’d prefer Marshall over Nispel as it will at least have a little grit. If they make the new Connan into the next polished cgied, look good movie I’m gonna buy the dvd just to piss on the damn thing.

Christophe Gans has Onimusha movie in development but he is a good choice with Conana but they should get another director for Conan, Neil Marshall could be a good choice.
I think Gans should stick to Onimusha and he should bring more info about the Onimusha film with Japanese cast and film producers.
I think that Marcus Nipsel should direct Ninja Scroll for Warner bros and Appian Way.
Thank You.

I don’t get the big deal with Marshall. I’ve seen Descent, Dog Soldiers, and Doomsday. Out of the group, none of them were really spectacular to me. Doomsday was a huge disappointment. Probably more so to do with its poor marketing than anything else. I was under the impression from the marketing the movie got here in the states that it was going to be another zombie virus type movie. Instead I got Mad Max meets Death Race 2000 by the end of it. Left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Scoop alert!! Over this past weekend, producer George Furla met with Andrew Bryniarski at Q’s in LA to discuss the Conan movie!! I don’t think there is another actor who could pull it off. This guy brings it, and he looked like he was getting back into “Any Given Sunday” shape- huge!! Plus he has really long hair. I know because I overheard part of their conversation, as they were watching the Boston game with some other people. They were DEFINITELY talking about the Conan movie, and Andrew playing Conan!! This would be the best thing to happen to Conan since Marky Mark fell out of the running.
