Liam Neeson’s kid in LOVE ACTUALLY is cast as TINTIN!

Thomas Sangster17 year old British actor Thomas Sangster, probably best known for playing the son of Liam Neeson in Love Actually (has he actually aged at all, is he really 17?) has been cast to do the voice and motion capture for the Steven Spielberg/Peter Jackson project Tintin which will begin filming in August.

The Daily Mail also tell us that Andy Serkis’ role is actually that of Captain Haddock, Tintin’s loyal sidekick.

You know, I wasn’t so sure of this motion capture technology after seeing its results in Robert Zemeckis’ movie The Polar Express but in retrospect it was more the idea that Tom Hanks played every single character and I guess we have to remember it was the early days of the technology.

In Beowulf, I was completely won over. It worked. I was utterly blown away, it was fantastic.

I can’t imagine any other way to do the epic tale after seeing that movie. And now I’m convinced that an Alex Ross style animated JLA movie is absolutely the best way to do such a movie in this current climate. You really could bring a comic book to life then because although it’s cool seeing Superman kick ass in live action… when you have seven superhero’s flying around and using all their powers, animated is the only way to make it as epic as it’s drawn.

So I’m really looking forward to seeing what Jackson and Spielberg come up here. It’s been YEARS since I’ve seen anything that involves Tintin but I’m sure both guys respect for history will take me back straight away. Spielberg directs the first movie… should be great.

  1. NOOOOOOOO! Amdy Serkis is a very good choice for Captain Haddock but that kid? That flippin’ kid?! No personal offence to the youngster but he annoys me and I find him pretty irksome (plus I also find it irksome in that they only seem to like using the same handful of child actors over and over. Freddy Highmore, I also mean you. Stop using the same kids time and time again!).

I have a bad feeling about these films. I think I’m going to have to make like an ostrich and bury my head in the books, avoiding anything that might ruin the special sacred bond I have with Herge’s original artworks.

  2. Probably best known as Liam Neeson’s kid? Doesn’t that just mean that’s the only film you’ve seen him in?

    Do you watch films?

  3. Seraph,

No I never watch films. That’s why I run a movie site.

  4. That kid is 17 now? Jeeeez. It makes me feel so old.

And seraph what on earth is that supposed to mean? He IS best known as being Liam Neeson’s son in Love Actually… his other roles where far smaller and in less well known movies/shows.
