Keith David voicing the villain in The Princess and the Frog

keith davidKeith David, most memorable to me as starring in The Thing and Platoon will voice the main villain Dr. Facilier in Walt Disney’s The Princess and the Frog. This is the movie that marks the studio’s return to 2-D animation after a decade in the wilderness as CGI took over Hollywood.

Walt Disney Animation Studios will produce the fairy tale, which is set in New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz, and will introduce Princess Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), a young girl living in the French Quarter.

The movie is an original story from the duo John Musker and Ron Clements who were responsible for the Disney animated flicks Aladdin, Hercules and The Little Mermaid.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again. There’s lots of life left in the 2-D animated medium, especially from Walt Disney Studio’s whose 2-D output has been greatly missed. David’s got a great voice too, as proven in the numerous voice acting gigs he has done in the past.

Expect this in cinema’s for 2009.

Keith David’s got great pipes all right. He’s also doing the narration for The War, which is Ken Burn’s greatest (certainly his longest) documentary, so far. Ken Burns, for those who don’t know, is kind of the professor emeritus of documentary filmmaking in the US. I think one critic put it best, “Ken Burns is America’s documentarian.”

BTW, can’t you find a better pic of Keith David than that one?

I totally agree, JaySmack. He’s got a fantastic voice. His portrayal of Spawn from the HBO animated series if incredible. He was also the voice of the Arbiter from Halo 2. Although I don’t follow all of his work, I’m a fan of just about anything he has done.
