Kapur directing Minghella’s segment of NEW YORK, I LOVE YOU

Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth: The Golden Age) will shoot Anthony Minghella’s segment in the cinematic love letter to the Big Apple titled New York, I Love You.

The untimely passing of the great British helmer hasn’t disrupted any of the filming and Kapur is said to have been hand chosen by Minghella himself a short while before he went into surgery.

The segment will shoot in Manhatten next month and no actors have been cast as yet. If it’s about a male, then I see no choice better than Jude Law… an actor who became a frequent star for Minghella but of course Law is already starring as one of the Heath Ledger morphed characters in Terry Gillaim’s next movie so he might not be able to get the time off.

From The Hollywood Reporter

“He told me his film was about the value of life and how people sometimes just throw away their lives, unable to look beyond into the real beauty of it,” Kapur said. “I will direct the film now — with Anthony in my heart and in presence of his soul.”

According to IMDB lurkers who have kept up with the films production, the actors starring in the movie are to date are…

Kevin Bacon…
Ethan Hawke…
Maggie Q…
Natalie Portman…
Irfan Kahn…
Isabelle Adjani…
Robin Wright Penn…
Chris Cooper…

With segments from the following directors…

Fatih Akin
Yvan Attal
Allen Hughes
Shunji Iwai
Wen Jiang
Scarlett Johansson
Joshua Marston
Shekhar Kapur shooting Anthony Minghella’s segment
Mira Nair
Natalie Portman
Brett Ratner
Andrei Zvyagintsev
Randall Balsmeyer

Lots of talented people… and of course “The Rat”.

Still haven’t seen Paris, je’taime (the similar love letter to the city of Paris which this movies is an unofficial sequel of) but that might have been because of it’s lack of theatrical release in this country. Hope this movie gets a better distribution.

  1. Paris, je’taime was quite nice, not every of the segments were actually good, but altogether it was a nice thing. The Tom Tykwer episode was the best in my opinion (not only because of Miss Portman ;) ) followed by the episode of the Coen brothers.
