JUSTICE LEAGUE is MORTAL. New title & Martian Manhunter cast…
Now that the strike is over, it would seem the JUSTICE LEAGUE film is officially back on and will probably begin production quite soon. I kinda figured as much the other week when none of the stars of the picture were announced as finding any other work since they were let go from their contracts.
According to a report in The Sunday Morning Herald, it’s claimed JUSTICE LEAGUE MORTAL (probably with a : in), the $200 million superhero team-up movie at Warner Bros. will now shift production to Canada because of problems the film is facing with the Feds in Australia who want a 40% rebate on the project.
The article goes on to mention that the JUSTICE LEAGUE film is back on but in a “precarious” position because of the change of location. The site also goes to say that this guy is in the film. AICN deduce and are quite probably correct that the actor will be Martian Manhunter in the film…
Hugh Keays-Bryne is his name. The Indian born but British character actor is quite a big name in Australia but apart from appearing in Farscape and George Miller’s own 1979 movie MAD MAX, you won’t know who he is.
Really surprisingly, he is north of 60 which completely goes against any of the other casting in the picture. I mean he’s nearly three times older than Anton Yelchin who was supposedly cast as Aqua Man.
I mean hell, finally they have cast a real MAN in the picture but have they maybe gone too far here?
I would just love them to re-cast the whole film at this point and put older men in this movie. Men of real stature. Pay whatever it takes to get Christian Bale on board, get Brandon Routh (which seems such an easy choice, I can’t believe they aren’t) or if as rumored you aren’t going to use the characters of Batman and Superman then fair play to you… cast a great Green Lantern and The Flash and you could be onto a winner here.
So JUSTICE LEAGUE: MORTAL seems to be the new name and the movie is back on. The script is possibly being re-tweaked without it’s two core characters right now and I would expect all the men and women who were originally cast to be back on board.
What do we think now about this $200 million picture. Have we changed our mind on it since it was scrapped? Do we want to see this? Are we happy that they have cast someone older in the film? Are we happy to see this project without Batman and Superman? What about the project’s new name?

justice league: mortal???
obviously its referring to how “superheroes aren’t invincible” and how “we are all mortal” cause obviously someone will die in this film. stupid. just call it “justice league”.

I still want to see it. If it doesn’t happen now, it will be in danger of never happening.
I have a feeling that Keays-Bryne’s will just provide the voice. I’m guessing J’onn will be CGI.
I doubt Supes and Bats aren’t in it. They will help sell the film and there are all the toys they could make with them.
Bale doesn’t belong in this film because the Batman he and Nolan created is too “real” for a film like this, as far as “real” goes anyway.
I still don’t see Routh as Superman. They failed at getting someone who looks like Reeve IF that’s what they were really going for. And the Superman Singer created was pretty lame. He doesn’t seem like a Superman who would fit into a JLA film to me too.
In the end it doesn’t really matter about Bale or Routh. The audience isn’t going to be “confused” like so many people say they will. All they want to do is come see a movie for about two hours, enjoy themselves, and go on with their lives. They aren’t going to be hanged up on the issue on who’s acting as who. They’d go see Nolan’s films, this film, and Singer’s (IF a second one ever happens).
Could do without the film being called JLM instead of JL like most of us assumed when we heard the film wouldn’t be called JLA.

Wow, so many dumb-ass decisions all at once. Do they sit around thinking up stupid stuff to screw up this movie?
This flick is already the worst movie of 2009.

Recasting Batman and Superman would be fine … if the picks hadn’t been so jaw droppingly terrible. If they’re going to get a stand in for Bale, then he really better be able to stand up to a comparison with Bale.
This cast is composed almost entirely of nobodies. Not “unknowns”, but NOBODIES. An “unknown” has been toiling away for years, honing his craft, awaiting his big break. An “unknown” can be very well known and respected by a select circle of, say, theater goers. That doesn’t describe this cast. They are NOBODIES, who have demonstrated nothing and are respected by no one. Even the “famous” ones, who have been working more than a year, look nothing like their characters. It is simply the worst cast movie I have ever seen. It is amazing. It is shocking. It is incredible how badly this movie has been cast.

The “Mortal” in the title will be in reference to an already dead Superman. Batman has been kicked out of the Justice League and Superman has died in an epic battle with Doomsday. All of this will make sense as Warner Brother’s moves forward with Justice League:Mortal and Superman, The Man of Steel. Like it or not Bryan Singer is on board(I believe he is the right director for Superman) and Warner’s has signed him for the next Superman movie and writers are hard at work pitching their version to Warners. Justice League:Mortal has been pushed out to a 2010 release and I believe it is because Superman, The Man of Steel will be released first in 2009. Tie this in with The Dark Knight being released this May and Warners has the making of three super hero block busters three years in a row with a sequel to Justice League:Mortal coming in 2011. That Justice League sequel will include Chritian Bale and Brandon Routh in their respective roles as Batman and Superman.

Dan from mtv threads? So pretty much none of what you’ve said is true. Thanks for nothing. again.

Hey Dan, does this mean that Doomsday will be in Superman: The Man of Steel? And is he the only villain that will be in it?

There is no chance it’s going to be better than The Dark Knight. They should wait until Nolan’s Batman trilogy has finished otherwise it will be in it’s shadow.

Who says they’re trying to be better than TDK?
I’m happy to see a Batman in this kind of universe. I mean, this is BATMAN we’re talking about. There’s nothing real about him. And the general public isn’t going to care. Like I said before, they’ll go see this film and any other film WB/DC comes out with. It’s not like Nolan’s films are any jeopardy. The only jeopardy it would be in is if the rumors about him leaving just because of this film are true. Shows how much he truly cares.
