After a short break from acting, Julia Roberts is back into the groove. She’s got no less than four projects on the go at the time of writing, some of them pretty interesting (the Tony Gilroy thriller DUPLICITY) and according to The Hollywood Reporter we can add a fifth to that list.
The trades say that Roberts will star in HOTHOUSE FLOWERS, an adaptation of Margot Berwin’s upcoming novel about a recently divorced woman who is dissatisfied with her job at a Manhattan ad agency and embarks on an adventure. Details of said adventure remain undisclosed but I doubt she will be chasing after The Ark of the Covenant. It’s far more likely to be some kind of journey of discovery.
The book is written by Internet writer Margot Berwin who contributes over at Nerve.com. The film has no script and no writer attached with the WGA strike ongoing. This also means no director yet either.
Roberts has made some pretty smart decisions lately (distancing herself from the OCEAN’S series might have saved her career) and she was pretty damn great in CHARLIE WILSON’S WAR playing against her own type. Something I’m quite happy to see her carry on and experiment with at this stage of her career.
